An alumnus of 夜色视频鈥檚 TC Beirne School of Law, Dr Kala Mulqueeny, has been named a Yale World Fellow for 2010.
Dr Kala Mulqueeny, Senior Counsel for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, was one of 15 World Fellows selected for 2010 and begins the Fellowship program at Yale University on August 18.
An environment and energy lawyer and former professorial lecturer at the University of the Philippines Law College, Dr Mulqueeny was awarded the Fellowship for a career spanning private sector law firms in Sydney, New York and Hong Kong, not-for-profit public interest work, teaching in Asian law schools, and law and development at the ADB.
Dr Mulqueeny said she was honoured to be selected as one of the Yale World Fellows.
鈥淚t is a rich privilege to be counted amongst such talented and distinguished people and I am humbled by Yale鈥檚 affirmation of work I care passionately about,鈥 she said.
"The program is an extraordinary chance to share ideas and experiences with outstanding peers who still want to 鈥榗hange the world鈥 and I am excited by the idea of learning from the brilliant minds within the Yale community."
Dr Mulqueeny鈥檚 Fellowship involves attending Yale from August to December to participate in a specially designed academic curriculum that advances critical thinking and leadership skills.
The 2010 Yale World Fellows will also receive individualised skill-building training during the program and meet with U.S. and foreign leaders.
Dr Mulqueeny graduated from 夜色视频 in 1993 with a Bachelor of Laws first class honors and a University Medal, and a Bachelor of Commerce (1992).
She has a Doctorate of Juridical Science (SJD) (Phd equivalent) from Harvard Law School, and an LLM (waived) where she was awarded the Laylin Prize for the best paper in International Law for her Masters thesis, which was awarded again for her SJD dissertation, making her one of only two persons to have twice won this Prize.
Dr Mulqueeny recently led ADB鈥檚 inaugural Asia Pacific Dialogue on Clean Energy Governance and Regulation, and its Asian Judges Symposium on environment, and also initiated work on an Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Energy Regulators鈥 Network, endorsed by ASEAN Senior Energy Officials.
She also works on water and energy regulation in South-east Asia and the Pacific; clean technology regulation, including Carbon Capture and Storage technology; and was the lawyer on China and the developing world鈥檚 first Integrated Gas and Combined Cycle Project.
After the 2004 Asian tsunami, she led work with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Justice on a legal assistance and governance project that has to date helped about 60,000 Sri Lankans.
A vegetarian for 30 years, Dr Mulqueeny has also worked on animal welfare, including supporting non-profit Animals Asia.
