University of Queensland researchers have been awarded more than $7.5 million through 4 schemes focused on improving health outcomes.
The 4 ҹɫÊÓƵ projects include research to address health challenges for First Nations peoples across cardiovascular disease, paediatric cardiac surgery care, and obstructive sleep apnoea.
2023 Optimising Screening, Diagnosis and Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)
- will lead research to co-design a culturally responsive OSA screening and diagnostic approach for First Nations peoples, and improve awareness of the condition through community consultation.
2023 Genomics Health Futures
- will lead research to strengthen earlier detection of recurrent invasive lobular breast cancer using blood-based biomarkers to monitor patients.
2023 Cardiovascular Health Mission
- Associate Professor Prem Venugopal will lead research to improve equity for First Nations children requiring cardiac surgery care in regional Queensland and Western Australia, with the aim to inform a roadmap for implementation across Australia.
- will lead the development of a cardiovascular disease risk prediction tool for First Nations peoples using data from Indigenous communities.
